Remember those old school jacket potatoes? Well we freshened the recipe up a bit. This version is made with sweet potatoes and delish as F*CK. Healthy and porn food at the same time. They take some time to bake in the oven, but the actual making time is hardly 10 minutes. Perfect for those old school lazy days. Eat as a snack or serve as a meal with panfried garlic broccoli or a luscious green salad, like this one.

CAULI ROAST CHICK’N STYLE

In our book we already gave you a version of a badass cauliflower roast. We are such big fans of this dish, that we had to give you another recipe. If you still eat animal products, remember there is always a better veg option around. Like this one. This cauli roast is as versatile as roast chicken, and there are just as many possibilities when it comes to seasoning. This one is a sort of mediterranean version. Perfect with roasted potatoes, garlicky button mushrooms and haricots verts or a nice salad. Also wonderful by itself with some tahini sauce. Tips for this recipe were given to us by a wonderful neighbour from Tel Aviv. He used to eat this dish on the streets of his home town.

But wait, this one probably tastes nothing like you remember from the good old days or ever had before. This is a 2019 way of eating a classic dish transformed to the new era and that normally was eaten with something that we cannot seem to remember, but we replaced anyway with this crispy, savoury, smoky, bacon-style tofu.

EPIC SEITAN BRISKET

Seitan is so versatile and your perfect companion if you’re planning to make something extraordinary and pompous, like this brisket style chunk of wheaty goodness. By cooking it for a really long time, and using some acidity in the cooking liquid, the seitan changes texture wise on a molecular level, which makes it way easier to digest, and more delish too. Perfect dramatic centrepiece for Sunday brunches or dinner parties. Serve with a light, green salad.

Have you ever heard of Fistulina Hepatica, a.k.a. beefsteak mushroom? This some amazing shit. A fungus that looks exactly like a succulent steak. It even bleeds! The texture is tender and juicy. You can find it on farmers markets or ask a local mushroom forager about it. If you can’t get your hands on one, use portobello mushrooms instead. Perfect alongside Parisian potatoes and a nice green salad or cooked green beans.

The time we've all been waiting for is finally her The time we've all been waiting for is finally here. The summer family BBQ! The best time for a good toast under the sun, and a tasty roast too! Roasted tempeh and grilled tofu topped with tasty sauces are the perfect ingredients to set the summer vibes we’ve been looking forward to.

And yes, you read right. In the family summer BBQ we imagine, animals are more than welcome to attend as long as they are enjoying the moment with us, and not there as a sacrifice for us.

Sam and her family would be the first to say thanks for leaving meat behind this summer - and hopefully forever more! Sam is a mother of 251 piglets, of which only 9 are here today due to the industry. She became one of the lucky ones in February 2021 when she was rescued while pregnant with her little ones by @meliefanimalsanctuary. In wanting to show the spirit of those behind the isolated walls of the meat industry, House of Animals will be launching a documentary about Sam’s story and those of her piglets in 2022.

This summer and all days to come, let’s honor Sam and all the souls we’ve lost as a result of the industry by eating plant-based, succulent BBQs! Inspired by Sam’s story, House of Animals created a recipe book with the help of us, @maartjeborst and @lisettekreischer, which will make your summer glimmer with taste, rich flavors and joy. Drum rolls, please!

FAMILY.EAT.PLANT. has hit planet Earth and here is the first recipe to go online! And certainly not the least! Yes, we know, what you see here in the pic looks suspiciously like a sandwich with sunny-side-up eggs. But none of that!

What you see are peaches (or apricots) with a cheesy sauce. Maartje’s father used to make this recipe often on the weekend. Super easy, super yummy.

You can keep it plain and simple by just making the cheesy sauce, and prep the toast with the sauce and peaches, or you can go wild and throw some slices of vegan ham on there.

Dear peeps! It has been so long! How are you all d Dear peeps! It has been so long! How are you all doing?!

We have been absent for almost a year on this page. How time flies. When C hit and the measures influenced our lives as entrepreneurs we had to rearrange some stuff. We did not sit still though. Maartje moved to another city, published an amazing vegan baking book Taart ende Koeck and got pregnant ;-). Lisette co-wrote the book DOG.EAT.PLANT., became part of the rescue operation and project @mymomsam and unfortunately lost her biggest friend in the whole world, Mr. Pooh.

WHAT.A.JOURNEY. Life is just miraculous and everything always changes.

In January we embarked on the journey of making a vegan family cookbook which had been a long dream of ours. It turned out to be a magical process. Everything flowed like never before. Also, the book took on a whole new meaning for both of us. On the day we started shooting the recipes Maartje shared the extraordinary news of expecting a baby and after the last day of shooting little Pooh, Lisette's biggest family member passed away.

Making the book was an emotional project, but not in a hard way. It turned out to be very healing actually. The publisher was the kindest and helped in every way she could.

This whole book breathes family. And as far as we are concerned... family is a feeling.

A family is a co-creation of beings - human, more than human, etc. And that includes tasty, diverse, and good food. Food that supports everything and everyone, including this Earth. 

FAMILY.EAT.PLANT. has become a delicious cookbook, this time with family recipes for young and old. In addition to recipes, this book also contains interviews with the inspiring and amazing plant-powered families.

We cannot wait to have a copy in our hands and are counting down the days.

We have let our minds wander in regards to the new reality we are finding ourselves in and to say it with the words of @zachbushmd (check out his posts!) we 'strongly believe there is too much bandwidth of the collective human consciousness spent on this topic’ so we are not gonna add anything to that besides a few things:

1. @thedutchweedburger just posted an amazing article on their blog that to us says it all

2. we are not quite sure if we will be able to continue our friday posts during the coming period, but will do our best to offer easy and delicious plant based inspiration, maybe through our stories

3. because we see a lot of sadness on social media right now we thought this recipe might cheer you up a bit. Just because a smile can do so much for yourself, your body and the world around you.
