FULL ENGLISH BREAKFAST

Kick start your day with this English breakfast classic! A good way to slap a hangover in the face.
This recipe is one of the winners from the book MAN.EAT.PLANT. and has made many savory lovers very happy.

Serves 2-4

INGREDIENTS

Smashed Potato
4 potatoes
oil for frying
freshly ground black pepper and sea salt

Baked Beans
360 g white beans, from a can
400 g diced tomatoes, from a can
2 tsp sugar
1 tbsp vinegar
1 clove of garlic, peeled and chopped
pinch of thyme or oregano

Mushrooms on Toast
4 slices of white bread
250 g mushrooms
1 clove of garlic, peeled and crushed
oil for frying
finely chopped parsley
freshly ground black pepper and sea salt

Extra
Tempeh Bacon

INSTRUCTIONS

Smashed Potato
Wash the potatoes and remove any bad spots. Cook the potatoes in lightly salted water until tender. Let them cool a little. Then press them flat with the palm of your hand (this is easiest between two pieces of plastic wrap or baking paper). Heat some oil in a frying pan and fry the potatoes on both sides until golden brown. Season with salt and pepper.

Baked Beans
Put the white beans in a colander, rinse and drain them. Heat the tomato cubes in a pan. Add the white beans, sugar, vinegar, garlic and thyme or oregano. Bring to a boil and simmer for a few minutes.

Mushrooms on Toast
Toast the slices of bread in a dry frying pan, toaster or in the oven (approximately 4 minutes at 200°C). Wipe the mushrooms clean and cut into slices. Heat some oil in a frying pan and fry the mushrooms together with the garlic until golden brown. Remove the garlic and garnish with some parsley. Arrange all parts on a plate for a complete and festive breakfast. This is also amazing with our crazy delicious tempeh bacon.

Kickstart je dag met deze Engelse ontbijtklassieker! Lekker om die kater een schop onder zijn kont te geven. Dit recept is een van de winnaars van het boek MAN.EAT.PLANT. en heeft tot nu toe menig lekkerbek erg gelukkig gemaakt.

Voor 2-4 personen

INGREDIËNTEN

Smashed Potato
4 aardappels
olie om in te bakken
versgemalen zwarte peper en zeezout

Baked Beans
360 g witte bonen, uit een pot
400 g tomatenblokjes, uit blik
2 tl suiker
1 el azijn
1 teen knoflook, gepeld en fijngehakt
snuf tijm of oregano

Mushrooms on Toast
4 sneetjes witbrood
250 g champignons
1 teen knoflook, gepeld en geplet
olie om in te bakken
bladpeterselie, fijngehakt
versgemalen zwarte peper en zeezout

Extra
Tempeh Bacon

INSTRUCTIES

Smashed Potato
Was de aardappels en verwijder eventuele uitlopers. Kook de aardappels in licht gezouten water gaar. Laat ze wat afkoelen. Druk ze vervolgens met de palm van je hand plat (dit gaat het makkelijkst tussen twee stukken plasticfolie of bakpapier). Verhit wat olie in een koekenpan en bak de aardappels aan weerszijden goudbruin. Breng op smaak met peper en zout.

Baked Beans
Doe de witte bonen in een vergiet, spoel ze af en laat ze uitlekken. Verhit de tomatenblokjes in een pan. Voeg de witte bonen, suiker, azijn, knoflook en tijm of oregano toe. Breng aan de kook en laat een paar minuten sudderen.

Mushrooms on Toast
Rooster de sneetjes brood in een droge koekenpan, broodrooster of in de oven (circa 4 minuten op 200 °C). Veeg de champignons schoon en snijd ze in plakjes. Bak ze samen met de knoflook goudbruin in wat olie in de koekenpan. Vis de knoflook eruit en garneer met bladpeterselie. Schik alle onderdelen op een bord voor een supercompleet en feestelijk ontbijt. Dit is ook super lekker met onze brijante Tempeh Bacon.

A happy book with an activist touch rich with delicious plant based recipes, a beautiful foreword by @karensoeters and an ode to dear Sam.

We discovered the cuisine of plants years ago and have been vegan for the animals for more than 38 years combined. It was a wonderful bonus that this way of life also turned out to be a lot better for the earth and ourselves. What we did not immediately expect was that this cuisine brought us huge taste explosions! We became big and strong on the power of plants and seduced and enticed by those wonderful flavours and textures. Meanwhile, we feel it is our mission to bring out the potential of this cuisine.

The time we've all been waiting for is finally her The time we've all been waiting for is finally here. The summer family BBQ! The best time for a good toast under the sun, and a tasty roast too! Roasted tempeh and grilled tofu topped with tasty sauces are the perfect ingredients to set the summer vibes we’ve been looking forward to.

And yes, you read right. In the family summer BBQ we imagine, animals are more than welcome to attend as long as they are enjoying the moment with us, and not there as a sacrifice for us.

Sam and her family would be the first to say thanks for leaving meat behind this summer - and hopefully forever more! Sam is a mother of 251 piglets, of which only 9 are here today due to the industry. She became one of the lucky ones in February 2021 when she was rescued while pregnant with her little ones by @meliefanimalsanctuary. In wanting to show the spirit of those behind the isolated walls of the meat industry, House of Animals will be launching a documentary about Sam’s story and those of her piglets in 2022.

This summer and all days to come, let’s honor Sam and all the souls we’ve lost as a result of the industry by eating plant-based, succulent BBQs! Inspired by Sam’s story, House of Animals created a recipe book with the help of us, @maartjeborst and @lisettekreischer, which will make your summer glimmer with taste, rich flavors and joy. Drum rolls, please!

FAMILY.EAT.PLANT. has hit planet Earth and here is the first recipe to go online! And certainly not the least! Yes, we know, what you see here in the pic looks suspiciously like a sandwich with sunny-side-up eggs. But none of that!

What you see are peaches (or apricots) with a cheesy sauce. Maartje’s father used to make this recipe often on the weekend. Super easy, super yummy.

You can keep it plain and simple by just making the cheesy sauce, and prep the toast with the sauce and peaches, or you can go wild and throw some slices of vegan ham on there.
